Has anyone tried to cruise lately with their birth certificate and photo id where the names did not match due to marriage. The marriage ended in divorce over 20 years ago so they don't have their license to bridge the two names. Why they didn't listen to me when I told them to at least get a passport card. Birth certificates from Puerto Rico issued prior to July 1, 2010, are not valid forms of proof of citizenship and are not accepted by U.S. Guests from Puerto Rico either need to present a WHTI-compliant document or a government-issued photo ID with a validated birth certificate issued after July 1, 2010. Accepted Forms of Identification

To help you plan, on cruises of 3-5 days, please limit your luggage to a maximum of one bag, per person. On cruises of 6 days or longer, no more than two bags, per person. Each checked bag and carry-on bag should not weigh more than 50 pounds and, when lying flat, bags must not exceed 16 inches high, by 24 inches wide (the length of the bag is not a factor). For security screening purposes, all luggage should be unlocked. Oversized luggage and locked luggage may cause delivery delays.

Carnival assumes no responsibility for advising guests of proper travel documentation. Yes, you can use your birth certificate to go on a Carnival cruise, but there are a few things you need to know before you set sail. While a birth certificate is a valid form of identification, it may not be sufficient on its own. Carnival Cruise Line requires all guests, regardless of age, to present either a valid passport or both a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, and a certified birth certificate.
Name On Reservation and Identification
Traveling abroad means you need some sort of identification — not only for getting into a foreign country, but also for getting back into the United States. These documents aren’t just to tell who you are, it’s also to prove your citizenship. Remember, it’s always best to check with Carnival Cruise Line or your travel agent to ensure you have the most up-to-date information regarding the identification requirements for your specific cruise. A state-issued birth certificate with a raised seal is preferred.
No birth certificate, no passport, BIG problem???
These cards cannot be used to travel by air outside the United States. One thing to know is that kids under 16 don’t have to show any identification. The ID requirement only applies to those 16 years or older.
At time of booking, guests will be able to confirm their preferred dining choice. If their preference is not available, they may confirm an alternate time and be waitlisted for their preferred choice - there is no guarantee a waitlist will clear. When possible, waitlists will be cleared prior to the sailing and guests will be notified by email.
Travel Documentation: U.S. Permanent Residents
Carnival requires all passengers to provide proof of citizenship before boarding the ship. This is to ensure compliance with international travel regulations and to prevent any issues that may arise during the cruise. And don't forget your personal toiletries (travel size or standard container size). U.S citizens are required to carry a passport book, valid for at least six months beyond the completion of travel.
It will probably be fine, make sure you have all other documentation. You can't get a driver's license (anywhere in the US) unless you have previously "proven" name changes. Documentation requirements are set by US Customs and Border Protection, and all cruise lines must abide by those guidelines. Visa Waiver Program (VWP)The Visa Waiver Program allows foreign nationals from certain countries to travel to the United States for business or pleasure, for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa. Citizens may be asked to surrender their passport at time of check-in. It will be returned upon completion of the immigration inspection at the time of debarkation.
This is indicated by the guest name(s) appearing in green and the prompt will read 'This guest has completed Online Check-in'.Why is this important? Completing this process before you arrive at the port will make the boarding process even easier. Once your Online Check-in is complete, you'll be able to print your boarding pass, luggage tags and even additional documents from home, to save you time when boarding. For Transpacific cruises and cruises visiting Asia, Australia and New Zealand, tourist visas and/or specific travel documentation may be required for some destinations. A Mobile/Digital version of an EDL is not an acceptable form of travel documentation.
While I agree that having a passport is better that is not a reason to not cruise. The OP is making a generous offer to a friend and/or relative and hopefully one of them will be able to join on the cruise last minute. I wouldn't let a lack of passport stop me from taking you up on your offer.
Arrival Appointment What time are you planning on arriving at the port terminal on embarkation day? Guests who arrive early will be asked to wait until their designated arrival window. For cruises that include a visit to Colombia, a US Passport Card is also acceptable, provided the cruise departs from and returns to a US port.
